Level 2 Learning Programme & PLUs

A Level 2 Learning Programme is for the very specific group of students with general learning disabilities in the higher functioning moderate and low functioning mild categories.

The Level 2 Learning Programme is based around Priority Learning Units (PLUs).
The PLUs focus on developing the basic social, pre-vocational, and life skills of the students involved.

There are five Level 2 PLUs:

  • Communicating and literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Personal care
  • Living in a community
  • Preparing for work

Level 1 learning programme & PLUs

The level 1 learning programme is also offered to students with general learning disabilities. Students taking the L1LPs are likely to be at an early stage of cognitive development. Students may also have an identification of a learning disability which falls in the range of low moderate to severe and profound.

Like the Level 2 learning programme, the Level 1 learning programme is based around the Priority learning units (PLUs).

There are six Priority Learning Units (PLUs) at the heart of every L1LP. These PLUs explicitly identify and develop the key areas of learning needed to prepare the students for their future lives.

  • Communication, language and literacy,
  • Numeracy,
  • Personal care and wellbeing,
  • Being part of a community,
  • The arts,
  • Physical education
